I use both Medium and Substack and honestly, both bring something different to the table.
Medium gives me that public, polished blog vibe. Substack feels more like a cozy journal I share with friends.
After spending time on both, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned, not as a pro, but as someone who just enjoys writing and connecting with readers like you.
What I Like About Medium
Medium is great when I want to reach a wider audience. It has built-in readers, solid SEO power, and the ability to publish in publications, which really boosts visibility.
Some of my blogs got picked up by Medium publications, and that helped me grow faster. It’s perfect for more structured, searchable posts especially when I write about learning, self-growth, or anything that fits trending topics.
But it also feels a bit formal sometimes. Like I have to dress my words up before they go live.

Why I Love Substack
Substack feels more relaxed. I write how I talk. I can be a little raw, a little messy and that’s okay.
The best part? It’s email-based. Every subscriber is your reader. You build a small, strong circle that chooses to hear from you.
And I’ve been enjoying the Notes feature lately. It’s like hanging out in a café full of writers. You drop thoughts, engage in conversations, and it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Let’s stay in touch.
Why I Use Both
I don’t believe in picking one over the other. I use Medium for reach and visibility. I use Substack for depth and honesty.
On Medium, I publish long-form blogs with clear SEO, structure, and polish.
On Substack, I write shorter, more heartfelt pieces — like this one.
Each platform brings something different. Together, they help me stay creative and connected.
At The End
You don’t need to wait for the “perfect” platform. Just start.
Try one. Or both. Follow your energy, your writing rhythm, and the kind of reader connection you value most.
Substack. Medium. Or even a diary.
What matters most is showing up with your truth.
Your voice deserves to be heard.
If you’re curious, I’ve shared a detailed comparison in my Medium blog — more examples, more insights.

Thanks for being here and reading my little reflections.
Medium offers reach, Substack offers ownership—depends on whether you want audience or autonomy
Totally agree, both have their own vibe and value. Medium gives structure, Substack gives soul. Love how you broke it down!
